New Head of Youth Cricket – Steve Gray
Steve has an outstanding track record in both cricket and in his professional career as a teacher. Having previously worked at Reepham High School and Hellesdon High School, Steve has recently joined Fakenham Academy in a senior leadership role alongside teaching PE. In cricket Steve has represented Norfolk, most recently in the 2023 season in the showcase fixture against Nottinghamshire. A former MCC spirit of cricket academy player, Steve has played second XI cricket for a number of professional teams as well as being a mainstay of the Swardeston side that sustained a prolonged period of national success.
Having joined Fakenham Cricket Club as a fresh faced (no moustache) 17 year old whilst studying at the college, we are delighted Steve is back playing cricket and working in the town. A leader, strategic thinker and one of the most caring and passionate people; it’s great to have Steve leading our youth section!
Steve’s vision for our youth is “to provide an environment where the kids are buzzing to come back next week. High energy, high levels of fun and learning – of which success, progression and engagement will become by-products.”
Steve also be supported by some familiar faces; Luke Caswell, John Ewart, Charlie Warden, Keegan Monahan-Fairlie, Stacey Lee, and Jonny Sadler will all be coaching throughout the winter and summer. Alongside some new faces!
We will be running a short winter training programme for all of our youth players. Sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons, 16:00 – 18:00* at Greshams School on:
· Sunday 14th January
· Sunday 11th February
· Sunday 3rd March
It is crucial from a planning perspective we understand numbers in advance. So please check out the club calendar in Teamo, locate the training sessions and respond with your availability, thank you.
*depending on numbers, the duration of the session may change to a shorter session but still starting at 16:00.
Team Managers / Coach volunteers
This season, Steve wants to ensure that every youth team has a Team Manager to ensure the admin of the team runs smoothly. This role is ideally suited to a parent/guardian who will be attending fixtures that their child/children will be playing. Each team will have a coach assigned, so it is envisaged the Team Manager, Coach and Steve will work closely on ensuring fixtures run smoothly. If this sounds of interest to you, please contact Steve directly via the chat function on Teamo or at Winter training.
Similarly, if you’d like to get involved in coaching, we are always looking to expand our network of coaches. The club would pay for your coaching qualifications. Again, if this is of interest please speak to Steve.
Any questions, thoughts, or feedback – I’d love to hear back from you so please do reach out.
